SBC offers members and their employees many different opportunities to connect in with others, share knowledge, collaborate and showcase best practice. By pooling time, resources, ideas and energy together to tackle challenges, members are able to influence change faster and on a larger scale than they would be able to achieve alone.
In 2018, a number of members in the freight industry approached SBC individually with the same problem: their transportation emissions were huge, and they wondered if other members were finding theirs the same. SBC brought these members together to collaborate on the Low Carbon Freight Pathway, an ambitious but achievable 30-year plan to progressively decarbonise New Zealand’s freight system.
Through this successful collaboration, SBC realised it had a unique ability to connect members in similar industries facing similar challenges together. We also began to see demand from more members for different types of forums where they can come together to go further faster and boost their collective impact, which led us to establish various opportunities for connection.

Communities of Practice
We offer a number of communities of practice (each centred around a specific topic or business ‘department’). The purpose of these are to provide a forum for practitioners to have dialogue and engagement, share learnings and best practices, stay abreast of the latest news and updates, provide upskilling and drive action, and assess opportunities for collaboration in a safe, non-competitive environment.

Established in July 2024 off the back of the Beca & SBC Nature Positive Workshop Series as a forum to continue engagement and learnings on the topic of ‘Nature’. In 2025, the Nature Community of Practice has opened to all SBC members working on nature to join. The group convenes 5 times a year on Wednesdays, 10-11am (co-chaired by Beca). Climate Related Disclosures Community of Practice
Established March 2024. The group came together following the SBC, Deloitte, KPMG & Toitū climate-related disclosures readiness workshop series as a forum to provide support, networking, and learnings on the topic of ‘Climate-Related Disclosures’. In 2025, this Community of Practice has opened to all SBC members working on CRDs to join. The group convenes 5 times a year on Wednesdays, 10-11am, plus ad hoc technical bonus sessions.
