What are the IDGs?
The Inner Development Goals (IDGs) are a globally recognized framework that cultivates the skills and mindsets needed
for sustainable change. Inspired by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), they emphasise personal growth as the
foundation for solving global challenges.
Why Inner Development Matters
Lasting change starts within. By fostering self-awareness, resilience, and compassion, individuals become more effective
change-makers in their communities and workplaces.
The Five IDG Dimensions:
- Being – Self-awareness & inner strength
- Thinking – Critical thinking & perspective-taking
- Relating – Empathy & connection
- Collaborating – Communication & trust-building
- Acting – Courage & perseverance

SBC’s role as the business hub for the Inner Development Goals
Through establishing itself as a hub, SBC aims to:
- Unify businesses around the IDG framework to foster inner capacities like resilience, empathy, and systems thinking.
- Scale transformation by embedding IDGs into leadership development, ESG strategy, and organisational culture.
- Amplify New Zealand’s global voice in the IDG movement, especially through SBC’s ties to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)
To do so, SBC is focused on 3 priority work areas:
- Programmes and engagement
Running regular workshops and learning journeys based on the five IDG dimensions: Being, Thinking, Relating, Collaborating, Acting - Communications and influence
Establishing member-focused communications campaign to raise awareness of inner development as a business imperative. - Measurement and impact
Sharing metrics to track progress on inner development and its link to ESG outcomes.
